A Pavilion Built for the Community
Nestled in Boulaide’s natural landscape, the Houfëls pavilion is designed to blend seamlessly with its surroundings. With its thatched roof and wooden construction, the pavilion enhances the area’s appeal, making it an inviting spot for both locals and visitors. Built in 1934 by the Winandy-Hames family of Baschleiden, the pavilion was later restored in 2012 thanks to the efforts of the Syndicat d’Initiative de la Commune de Boulaide asbl, in close collaboration with the pavilion’s owner.
More than just a scenic spot, Houfëls has become a hub for regional and cultural events, often hosting activities organized by the Office Régional de Tourisme or local artists. It also serves as a gathering place for community events like the popular Kaffisstuff um Houfëls and hiking activities.
A Place Steeped in Memories of War
Houfëls is not only a place for relaxation and recreation; it also holds historical significance. During the Second World War, a metal flag was erected at Houfëls to symbolize Luxembourg’s resistance and patriotism. After the war, the Winandy family acquired two guns left behind at the Donkelser Posteau: a German Pak 43 anti-tank gun and an American sFH18 field howitzer. These guns were installed at Houfëls, transforming the pavilion into a war memorial.

Views, Hiking and Nature
Houfëls provides some of the most breathtaking views in the region. From the pavilion, visitors can enjoy a stunning panorama of the Sûre River and the Bungerefer Millen, making it one of the key viewpoints in the Boulaide area.
The pavilion is also a prime spot for hikers, positioned at the intersection of several scenic trails, including the Autopédestre Boulaide, Eislék Pad Boulaide, Natur Pur, Sentier de la Haute-Sûre, Sentier Ardennes-Eifel, and the European long-distance trail E3. Picnic tables and benches are strategically placed to allow visitors to rest and take in the beauty of the landscape, creating an ideal spot to pause during a hike or simply enjoy the surroundings.
With its combination of natural beauty, cultural significance, and community-focused events, Houfëls serves as a unique destination for those seeking to experience both history and nature.
